Karachi Ring Road

‏P = W x Sinθ x 80/100 watts

‏P = 550 x Sin 9 x 80/100
‏ =69 watt

‏P=550 x Sin18 x80/100
‏ =136 watt

No of plates = 1750/259
‏ = 6.75 plates
‏No. of plates = 1750 /356
‏= 4.9 plates

Tax, Tax and Tax on All Solar Users in Pakistan

With rising electricity bills, frequent power outages, and falling solar panel prices, Pakistan, a country of over 240 million people, witnessed a growing trend toward solar energy. However, solar panel users now face significant taxes.

What are the Details?

According to people with knowledge of the situation, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) suggested to the government that homeowners and business owners who had solar panels installed pay a fee.

The power purchasing agency submitted a summary to the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) regarding this proposal. The suggested tax is Rs2,000 per kilowatt for both residential and commercial solar panel users.

The 12-kilowatt panels would pay Rs.24,000 in tax as reported by initial reports. The ministry has forwarded the summary to the prime minister for approval.

Information has been confirmed by ARY Official News Channel as well

Solar Net Metering rates to be cut by Rs10 per unit?

The swift rise in solar net metering installations is posing difficulties for the government and making it more difficult for it to control capacity rates.

It has been criticized that officials intend to lower the rates paid to customers who use net metering to generate solar power. The government wants to lower the amount that net metering customers receive for surplus electricity supplied back into the grid from Rs. 21 to Rs. 11 per unit. This will result in a loss of Rs. 10 per unit for solar power providers.

The cost of capacity charges, which Independent Power Producers (IPPs) must pay regardless of actual electricity purchases, has an impact on this choice. Power corporations want to extend this payback time to ten years, but the government maintains that, despite worries, the present rate allows consumers to recover their solar panel installation expenses within eighteen months.

Alchemist

The Timeless Wisdom of The Alchemist

Since its publication in 1988, “The Alchemist” captivated readers across the globe, becoming one of the best-selling books of all time. Over 65 million copies have been sold in more than 80 languages, proving the universal appeal of this modern classic. Here are the the 8 lessons that can be taken throughout life:

Overcoming Fear

The document notes that “fear is a bigger obstacle than the obstacle itself.” This is a powerful insight – often, our fear of failure or pain holds us back more than the actual challenge we face. Coelho reminds us that chasing our dreams may require taking risks, but the rewards that come from confronting our fears are far greater than succumbing to them.

Discerning True Value

The book suggests that “what is real will always last.” In other words, we should look beyond the quick thrills or temporary distractions, and focus on the choices and discoveries that have true, lasting significance. When making important decisions, we must carefully examine whether they align with our deepest values and can withstand the test of time.

Embracing the Journey

Rather than fixating solely on the end goal, “The Alchemist” encourages readers to “embrace the journey, not just the destination.” This speaks to the importance of being present and finding meaning in the challenges and experiences we face along the way. By appreciating the process of growth and discovery, we become more attuned to our inner desires and purpose.

Cultivating Gratitude

The book points out that “good things happen every day” – but we have to train ourselves to notice them. Practicing gratitude, even for the small joys and blessings of daily life, can shift our perspective and help us see the abundance all around us.

Ripple Effect of Growth

As we evolve and improve ourselves, the document notes that it “creates a wave of positive effects” – uplifting not just our own lives, but also those of our loved ones and community. This underscores the interconnectedness of our individual journeys and the power we have to make a positive impact.

Staying True to Yourself

The book cautions against being “swayed by others” and losing sight of our own path. It’s common for people to have strong opinions about how others should live their lives, but we must remember to focus on managing our own lives authentically, rather than bowing to external expectations.

Cultivating Unrealistic Optimism

“The Alchemist” encourages readers to “be unrealistic” and think beyond the limits of what seems possible. Many great inventions and accomplishments started with someone believing in the impossible. By daring to dream big, we open ourselves up to extraordinary possibilities.

Embracing Lifelong Learning

The book suggests that truly meaningful learning happens not just through reading or listening, but through direct experience and action. After preparing and planning, we must have the courage to take the first step and learn through doing. This active engagement is key to personal growth and mastery.

These eight lessons from “The Alchemist” offer a powerful framework for living a more purposeful, fulfilling life. By internalizing Coelho’s timeless wisdom, we can cultivate the courage, wisdom, and wonder to pursue our dreams and uncover the hidden treasures within our own journeys.

Pakistan’s game changers and lost opportunities (2)

Pakistan’s Game Changers & Lost Opportunities

Since its birth in 1947, Pakistan has struggled to realize its potential and transform into a developed, prosperous nation. Time and again, successive governments have promoted various projects and initiatives as potential “game changers” that would finally unlock rapid economic growth and improve the welfare of Pakistanis. However, for a variety of reasons, these much-touted game changers have consistently fallen short of their promised impact.

The Nuclear Program: A Costly Deterrent

Pakistan’s pursuit of nuclear weapons capability beginning in the 1970s was justified as providing a deterrent against military threats from a much larger India. After demonstrating its nuclear capability in 1998, Pakistan acquired a nuclear deterrent but at a high cost. The sanctions that followed starved key sectors of investment and talent, setting back economic development for years. While securing territorial integrity, the focus on defense spending has starved education, health and infrastructure – areas more likely to uplift ordinary citizens’ lives.

Gwadar Port: White Elephant or Strategic Asset?

The development of Gwadar Port was announced as a game-changing infrastructure project that would energize trade, connect Pakistan to Central Asia, and develop underdeveloped Balochistan province. While geostrategically located, minimal shipping traffic raises questions if the port will ever emerge from underutilization. The local Baloch population continues to protest over lacking economic benefits, with militant attacks and movement restrictions creating uncertain security for businesses. For now, the port remains a showcase project not yet delivering transformative impact.

CPEC: Road to Nowhere or Road to Prosperity?

The China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) promised a massive $64 billion investment building roads, power plants and special economic zones. The completed projects have patched infrastructure gaps but thus far failed to catalyze industrialization or exports at the scale imagined. Pakistan’s external debt has climbed as CPEC projects utilize expensive Chinese loans. Energy projects have been dogged by corporate disputes over tariffs and guaranteed profits assured to Chinese companies. While useful transport infrastructure connects north to south, the eastern Indus region remains neglected. The promised economic revolution awaits as CPEC 2.0 plans are still being charted.

Missed Opportunities

Beyond flawed execution, Pakistan’s dependence on mega projects versus broad-based development has caused many missed opportunities. Never has agricultural productivity seen sustained government focus, missing immense potential in fertile lands and a huge rural populace. Likewise, consistent underinvestment in health and education has resulted in human capital deficits now impeding economic advancement. Pakistan also failed to develop its endowment of minerals, gas and other natural resources, losing out on mining/extraction industries seen in comparable developing countries. Tourism featuring stunning mountain geography and ancient historical sites also remains untapped.

Unlocking Pakistan’s Promise

Decade after decade, Pakistan’s promise remains unfulfilled as a few glossy game changers fail to uplift human development indicators or catalyze across-the-board economic activity that impacts ordinary citizens’ lives. Smarter strategy is for consistent, stable policies across changing governments to develop pillars vital for growth. Ensuing points are some fields which require immediate addressal to uplift normal life in Pakistan

• Human Capital Investment: Quality healthcare, education, skills training and opportunities for women/youth to drive productivity

• Infrastructure Development: Transport, Energy, Water Resources, and Urban Planning

• Institutional Reform: Property Rights, Financial Access, Regulatory Framework, E-Governance

• Balanced Regional Growth: Rural Development, Small Cities/Towns, Spread Industries

Harassment of Women: Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act 2010

Introduction

Harassment against women at the workplace is a persistent issue in Pakistan, with studies showing that over 50% of women face some form of harassment at work. To address this, Pakistan passed The Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act in 2010. This post analyzes the key features and scope of this important legislation.

Defining Harassment

The Act provides a broad definition of harassment, covering unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, verbal/written communication or physical conduct of a sexual nature, and sexually demeaning attitudes. This aligns with definitions from CEDAW and covers the major forms of sexual harassment.

Scope of the Law

The law covers all organizations in both public and private sectors across Pakistan. Educational institutions are also included. The definition of “workplace” covers not just the office premises but also outside work activities linked to the job. However, it does not explicitly cover transportation or domestic workers.

Role of Inquiry Committees

The law mandates all organizations to set up internal Inquiry Committees to receive and investigate harassment complaints. This decentralized approach makes reporting accessible. Inquiry Committees have powers to summon witnesses, receive evidence, recommend penalties, and maintain confidentiality.

Oversight by Ombudsmen

Parties unsatisfied with the Committee’s decision can appeal to the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman has the powers of a civil court for investigation and oversight. This provides an impartial quasi-judicial body for redressal. Ombudsmen have interpreted the law progressively in some cases.

Employer Duties

Employers have a major role in implementing the Act’s provisions, including displaying the Code of Conduct, properly constituting the Inquiry Committee, and making adjustments to separate the complainant and accused during the investigation. This engages them in creating a safe workplace.

Shortcomings and Recommendations

Some definitions like “workplace” could be expanded, and regular harassment monitoring assessments mandated. Discrimination in salaries and opportunities should also be covered. More awareness campaigns are needed. Overall though, the law is a major step forward in protecting women’s right to work in Pakistan against harassment.

Conclusion

The 2010 Act provides a comprehensive legal framework for addressing the long-standing issue of workplace harassment of women in Pakistan. Proper enforcement and positive interpretation by courts will strengthen its effectiveness in creating safe, just and inclusive workplaces where women can equally participate.
